An artical in the local rag in the southern suburbs the SFL directors have realesed an artical intailing their proposition to the commision that the SFL, PFL , Mercantile comps all combine to create whats looks to be a mirror type relagation 2 up 2 down system as is currently in place in the ammos.

it was in the Examiner newspaper that i read the artical. A quick search online i could not find any online editions you may need to chase down a hard copy.

Any truth to the rumour that the SFL could be a 4 team comp this year?

Now you are just pulling the piss buddah dont be a fool.

6 team comp. Good this year as fees have dropped this year and the league paying for a few other things out of their pocket. Good stepping stone for clubs to make money and persue on the sat ammos next year!!

I have taken the liberty of summarising the above mentioned article from
Examine 29th of Jan.  SFL chairman Wayne Molloy said he was working
to merge the 4 Sun comps into one league namely Peel, Mercantile,
Hills and SFL with a view to promotion relegation & multiple divisions.
Mercantile are responsive to the idea.  Maddington, Gosnells and Kenwick
would match it with A grade clubs in the WAAFL and if Canning had last
years players it would be a strong C grade club.  IF FOR SOME REASON
THE MERGE FALLS APART WE WILL DO OUR BEST TO FIND A GOOD
COMPETITION FOR SFL CLUBS. MFC President Matt Hunt indicated member
were still discussing wether or not pulling its Sunday team was a viable
option however we have to remain in the SFL for season 09.  Pursing a
change will depend on wether or not the SFL comp is merged with Peel
and Mercantile league. (end of summary)

What would happen to the lower grades? Are any of the Mercantile Clubs in a position to field reseres or colts teams if the merger goes ahead? What happens to Halls Head and Safety Bay who are fielding colts and reserves teams this year? Would any of the Peel clubs look forward to playing Kwinana again if they ended up in the same grade?

That’s a big statement from Wayne Molloy. However towards the end of the last year when a SFL/Merger was being talked up, there did not seem much love for the idea in the Peel camp. I can’t see it happening .Maybe Wayne should concentrate hauling in either Mercantile or the Hill Dwellers first.

good luck merging with Peel. Certainly not going to happen in February. Its just re-hashing the same shit that happened last year. It didn’t get thru last year and it definitely won’t get thru this close to the season. By the way, has anyone heard of a CONSTITUTION !!! I’m sure every constitution has a clause about the entry of new teams into a league.

to answr some of your questions ,YES 4 of the mercantile clubs are looking to have league and reserves this year and they will probably get them to ,from recent talks with clubs ,midland, noranda kwinana defenitely , yanchep ,good chance ,the mercantile is warm to the idea of a merger if it is all 6 clubs ,1 in all in ,mercantile has 11 clubs and will have most probably a 7 team div1 comp, this year and 7 or 8 team div2 comp, =14 or 15 teams all together ,so a divisional structure could work and work good ,with 8 or 10 team league and res div 1 ,and div 2 could be league and reserves 6 and and 6 in both grades ,but sfl clubs have to stick together or whats the point in mercantile offering an olive branch ?? mercantile is stable with no clubs wanting to leave at this stage ,so it would have to be sfl clubs united ,if 3 want to go to amateurs ,then whats the point of the merger?? the 3 clubs left r probably the most strongest

I believe that its highly unlikely that PFL is going to change its attitude from this year
re merging.  They have the base of there league in a comfortable area and I dont see
them wanting to travel to far away places to play if the MFC, PFL SFL and Hills if they were
all to join together. Mercantile by the looks maybe the best options for the SFL however
even if they were to have league and reserves what about the colts of the SFL who are
the future of all clubs. Is there a colts competition in the MFC??.  My sources tell me
the same as IAU that one SFL club will be lucky to take the field this year which is ashame but for those of us living in the real world if its going to be a struggle every year to get players eventually the club folds.  With MFC and CFC both making noises about moving to the WAAFL this year but being
unsuccessful I see the SFL clubs all going in seperate directions in 2010 with the focus
on making sure whats best for the individual club and not the continuation of the SFL.  That then
would mean no merge with the MFC according to GTG.  All credit to Wayne MOLLOY and his team for what they are trying to do however unfortunately the situation they have been landed with is like buying a car and then finding out it has four flat tyres.  If you dont have a pump you aint gunna drive it out of the caryard
.

The major issue that rears i head when disscussing this with players from these said “merger” comps
is Travel
Its no secret that colts and ressies coaches fight the battle every week to get players to away games and the extra distance is only going to add this problem. I must agree with BDown and the SFL clubs must look out for there own interests for 2010 session or risk no where to play and sit out the year.

I to have heard the rumors that the kennel is a bit light on for players as Winny has left for greener pastures down south? The inside word i got was not enough people to much work?

Any one from Kelmscott or Canning got any updates. Coz a 4 team comp is looking likely and the fish are bitting the crabs in full flight down in Mandurah and we may aswell get on fishingwa.com and stay on top of where they are bitting.

Sounds Like Kelmscott’s best interests would be to move into the Merc League as a 1 team club, Canning should seriously look at that as well.

I don’t understand why the SFL directors, clubs and players are so adament at trying to revive a dead dog.
Do whats best for footy and put the comp out of it’s misery and let the clubs prosper, look at Wanneroo Kingsway and how they’ve grown since leaving the SFL, classic example of having the balls and courage to move on.

Problem is that it is now February, season normally kicks off late March early April and time is fast running out to set up league’s and fixturing.
Whats the point of keeping a club like Kelmscott and Canning in the SFL if they don’t have a coach or players to be competitive?
