WAFL Off season quiz part 2 - Best WAFL grand finals

OK, still 41 sleeps to go to the first WAFL fixture, so time for another quiz. one question in this one:

What are the 3 best WAFL Grand Finals that you have seen live?
You would need to consider the standard of football, crowd atmosphere, individual performances etc. They may not have been games which involve your team as I know that many of you go every year whoever is playing. To nominate a game in your top 3, you must have been actually there. Lets see how we go and when we get around 50 posts, I’ll collate the results.

My top 3(in order) are

1 2010 - Swans V Claremont - one of the most exciting games I have ever seen
2. 1979 - Bulldogs V Old Easts - Great atmosphere, top class match, I was pinned against the fence at the perth end.
3. 1978 - Royals V Demons - See saw game which changed when there was a torrential downpour in the 2nd half.

Look forward to everyones responses

What’s the go with the distribution of AFL listed players to the WAFL clubs? Is there still a draft or are they all just given to Perth and Peel because they are basket-cases?

MIDDLEMASS v GOSSAGE

If anyone’s got a glimpse of INSIDE COVER this week, they would have noticed the little Twitter SPAT between ABC’s CORBIN MIDDLEMASS and the one and only TIM GOSSAGE.

After MIDDLEMASS made comment on One’s coverage of the HOPMAN CUP,that got ‘ole TIMMY HOT UNDER THE COLLAR Flying the Flag for HIS MASTER’S VOICE,which after a few exchanges,Tim gave CORBIN this,....

“How about the WAFL Coverage in 2012 Corbin? Are the ABC doing that?"Or words to that effect.

In case you hadn’t heard Timmy boy,THEY’RE DOING THIS FOR THE NEXT 2 YEARS.I guess you missed ole Grant telling BOBBY MAUMILL about that eh?

This from the man, that would have the WAFL SHAFTED by Le WC and ze DORKS Reserves Teams in our Competition!

Heres what I’ve been able to glean from club websites and various posts on footygoss

Friday 24th Feb - EP V Subi - Medibank

Saturday 25th Feb - C v SF - Claremont, WP V P - Joondalup, SD V EF - Steel Blue

Friday 2nd March - EP V SF - Fremantle

Saturday 10th March - EP V EF - Medibank, P V S - Brownes Stadium, SD V C - Steel Blue

Saturday 17th March - EF V SF - East Freo, SD V Peel - Steel Blue, 4 teams also playing round 1

I’m sure this is incomplete as surely there would be a few more games on the 2nd and 3rd of March and West Perth and Peel are only listed for 1 game, maybe they are playing each other at some stage ( 10th March perhaps?). Does anyone know about any other games?

2012 Predictions!

It is the silly season and probably too early to rank the teams in finishing order for 2012 but here goes.

Claremont - lost some quality; will come back to the field.
Perth - with their extraordinary recruiting; should be the big improvers.
Swan Districts - will improve after their dreadful season in 2011 winning very few at home
East Freo - should perform; dependent to some extent on Eagles and Dockers remaining relatively injury free.
Peel - solid recruiting; hard to beat at home and will build on 2011 improvement
South Freo - unknown quantity; big losses but some impressive gains during the off season; could surprise.
West Perth - could finish anywhere; expect them to slide from 2011 lofty position
Subiaco - savaged by massive player losses; will struggle to make headway.
East Perth - well drilled and competitive but lack enough quality players to challenge for the finals.

You could throw all the names in a hat and come out with a completely different list.

Football Budget disc

Hi there. The Budget disc from 1951-74 should be ready to go by the start of next week. I’m waiting to hear back from one more collector who I’m hoping will have a few of the missing Budgets I need to add to the set.
Apart from the normal disc, I’m also offering a disc of Budgets covering certain games. There is a WAFL Finals disc, which has 212 programs dating from 1921-74. There are only 4 missing from that collection. There will also be an interstate games disc, which apart from regular interstate matches held over the years, also has the Carnival programs from 1921,1937, 1956 and 1972.
Another disc will be the Grand Finals programs, with 55 books from 1921-74 including the drawn 1938 Grand Final and the Grand Final replay programs.
I’m also creating a disc relating to the years your club won the flag. The years covered for each disk club are:
C: 1926 (first year in the WANFL), 1938, 39, 40 and 64*
EF: 1925, 28, 29, 30, 31, 33, 37, 43, 45, 46, 57, 65 and 74
EP: 1921, 22, 23, 26, 27, 36, 44, 56, 58, 59 and 72
P: 1955*, 67, 68*, 69
SF: 1947, 48, 50, 52*, 53*, 54*, 70
S: 1924, 73
SD: 1934 (First year in the WANFL), 61, 62 and 63
WP: 1932, 34, 35, 41, 42*, 49*, 51*, 60*, 69, 71

The years marked with an asterisk indicate an incomplete set. IN most cases there are 1 or 2 missing, however 1951 is short by 7 Budgets, 1953 is missing 6 and 1955 is missing 6 as well.

The above discs will sell for $30 , with the set from 1951-74 to sell for $60 and the set from 1921-74 to sell for $125. The 1921-74 disc will have 1486 programs on it covering 54 years of WA Football.
If you’re interested in any of those discs, email me at footy dot scanner at gmail dot com. If you buy one of the discs mentioned above and still want to get another one of the discs covering 1921-74 or 1951-74 when they are ready to go , I’ll take the $30 already spent off the price.
