Looks like big fella Callum Wilson may have sewn up a ‘real’ spot on wce’s list for the next few years with 4 goals today. Good on him 2. In his 3rd year as a rookie, which I think is the limit so next week maybe his last with the eagles or the start of years of AFL football. Certainly a better option than Lynch, Hansen and McKinley.

Ashton Hams too has done enough to play regular AFL next year. Great to see as he is a no nonsense player who will improve the more he plays.

Mr Ryan Murphy showed his lack of AFL skill and desire yesyerday which is why he will be gone at the end of the year. Will he stay in Perth and play at SF?? Wouldn’t think so being a Vic boy. Be nice if he did like Seigert, Ryley Dunn and Luke Pratt have done.

Got me thinking though, there is a real chance that we SF, could be without our 2 key forwards next year and for years to follow. 100+ goals a year on average for the last 4-5 years. A huge hole to fill.

Haydn North, currently out injured with a hammy may have already played his last game for the club. Theo Adams has been a huge loss for us this year but is by no means a cert to be well enough to play on next year. phillips will be out for the first half of the year recovering from his knee op. Question marks surely hang over the head of blokes such as Miller (should keep going), Bossong, McGrath (injury the main concern).

Big restructure needed but the most worrying thing is if Wilson is in the wce plans for the future and Murphy does go back home, where do you get 2 quality forward during the pre season?? Kersten can fill a spot as a 3rd forward for sure but then he will be gone to the AFL. We lacked a small forward as it is, hardly want to be lacking a ff and chf also.

Don’t think we as supporters could have asked anything else from the youngsters such as Bairstow, Phillips, Gugliamana, Amato, Collica, Dellolio. Kersten and Parry.

Scott Thornton probably will head back home 2 you would think and with Seigert retiring throughout the year we certainly need some experience to help these young blokes along.

I look forward to a busy and productive time in the next 3-4 months for the SFFC with plenty of action to be seen.

Just to clear up a few myths floating around abot the quality of our youth (colts) and depth (reserves)

Currently V WP the reserves comprises of 12 players who can still play colts football right now.

Add Matthew Jones (state 18’s), Myles Bolger (state 18’s), Ben Newton (state 18’s) and Shane Kerston (state 18’s) and the colts side wouldlook alot different. Add 4 injuries to some good players and our WHOLE colts side is not playing. 20 kids not playing colts football.

Recent results are not an indication of our waining depth and strength but purely injuries in the league and reserves.

Just wanted to clear that up for those chucking stones from afar and having a crack.

Read somewhere the list of injuries we have.

Made me wonder how many of the premiership side from less than 1 year ago will run out V WP tomorrow night.

Bell, Farmer, Smithers. (retired last year)
Graham, Delolio, Phillips, Reece Adams, Theo Adams, Wilkie. (injured)
Thornton, Seigert. (retired this year)
Wilson, Hams. (AFL)

Leaves Mugumbwa, Delmenico, Head, K. Hams, Bossong, Hunt, Miller, White, McGrath playing. That’s 9/22!!!

Lost close to two thirds of a premiership side!!!

I think of that 9 only Hams, Miller, Delmenico and White have played close to the full year.

When you have a look at blokes like Gugliamana, Bairstow, Parry and Collica this year who are all 18,19,20 yrs old it looks ok for the years to come when we get the injured players back next year.

Palumbo, Winter, Kersten and Motlop have also shown good signs during their rare opportunites.

Wouldn’t mind having a midfield brigade next year of Nathan Phillips, Reece and Theo Adams, Miller, Bairstow, Gugliamana, Wilkie, Delolio and Palumbo plus 1-2 recruits.

McGrath, Hams’, White and Head will be the cream and not relied upon every week hopefully.

McCarrey up forward, with Wilson, Delmenico, Gumby, McGrath and 2 livewire forwards. Doubt Murphy will stay as he is sure to be delisted this time by freo.

Graham in the ruck with either Haywood blooded from the ressies or a recruit.

Down back, same kind of feel with Hunt and Bossong, White and Hams but definately need a running half back here and another solid tall defender. (McCarrey up forward coz Murphy went home)

3-4 recruits in the right spot and less injuries and we should have some more sustained success!!!

In what is a big get for South, Brent Dawkins from the FFC has come on board...full story below

Fremantle Football Club’s current Team manager, Brent Dawkins will take over the role of the Bulldog’s Football Operations Manager on Monday October 4 after completing nearly 15 years of meritorious service with the Dockers in a variety of positions since January 1996.

Recognized by the WAFL hierarchy as a major recruiting coup for the Bulldogs, Brent commenced his association with the Dockers as their Victorian based recruiting officer from 1996 to 1998.

In 1999 he was based in Fremantle as a fulltime recruiting officer and also co-ordinating player welfare programs.

His current position in football operations with the Dockers began in 2004 under the guidance of Stephen Icke and current boss Chris Bond.

Brent has accepted the role with South Fremantle with the blessing of the Dockers and in particular Chris Bond who highly recommended him for the position.

When he commences his new job at South Fremantle, Brent will be in complete control of all football operations of the club and he will call upon his 15 years experience working within the AFL system hopefully to good effect and to the benefit of his new club.

Married into the famous Martinovich family which has very strong links to the club through Chris and Ted, Fremantle’s renowned chiropractic team, his appointment could not be more welcomed by Bulldog’s supporters.

Any chance young Shane Kersten could debut this weekend in a crucial derby encounter? With Freo and WCE coming off bad losses on the weekend, one has an inkling Wilson and Murphy could be lining up on opposing sides this weekend and quite possibly on each other!!!!!

Kersten kicked 6 on Sat, did well in the recent u/18 carnival......seems like a natural goal kicking type, be interested to see how Riccardiello fares up front for EF if selected.......big ask for him to debut as well in a crucial match......and then kick goals too. Riccardiello has only been recently moved up front for EF reserves and has responded with 10 goals in 2 games against the top two reserves sides in Claremont and EP.......

Kersten....or even McCarrey a focal point down one end, Riccardiello the opposing focal point down the other......injuries for both teams....SF on the up...EF on the slide....final four aspirations on the line...gee your gotta love the timing of a derby eh?......absolutely classic if you ask me........funny thing is the losing side whilst in 7th position(EP surely must hammer Peel) after this weekend is still a good chance for making the four!............fingers crossed a SF boy(Riccardiello) can bring the bacon home for EF instead of an EF boy(McCarrey) bringing the bacon home for SF!.......
